Choosing Your Car WAX (OR SEALANT)
The climate in your area and how much time you’ve available for maintaining your cars will dictate the rules you should follow.
A sealant will last longer than carnauba car wax which is why a synthetic wax will outlast it. If you have little time, then you might want to try a sealant.
Equally, if you reside in a climate that is subject to substantial changes in weather conditions throughout the seasons and especially harsh winters then sealants or “winter waxes” might also be the better option.
When you have more time and you are not so into waxing your car (as some people do), synthetic waxes may be the better choice for you in the summer months.
When you are buying car wax, you need to be aware of the differences between car wax and polish. Some manufacturers have confusing packaging. In fact, I wrote a whole post on this topic.
The color of your paint can also play a large role in your decision to use a sealant or a synthetic product like carnauba.
Exactly how To apply Car WAX
Here are the steps to properly wax an automobile by hand after you have chosen the wax or sealant of your choice.
1. Firstly make certain that your paintwork is completely dry. While some products can be used on wet paint, most will work better on a dry surface.
2. A good place to work is somewhere shaded from direct sunlight, and away from direct sunlight. While some of these products can withstand direct sunlight, you will find that some may actually be detrimental to your health.
3. You will end up with a deeper shine, no matter how much product you use. Apply thin layers if necessary, and then buff off excess with a fine buffed sponge. This is the end result, you want.
4. If you use a regular-size hand applicator pad, you can work on one area at a time, with a section of approximately 2 – 3 sqft.
5. Use polish to cover the entire surface of the pad with a single application, about the size of a quarter or 10p.
6. When you apply wax or sealant, do so in a straight line that is up and down. You only need to apply a small amount of pressure to create a smooth and even glide when you coat.
7. To dry this product, follow the manufacturer’s instructions (or do not).
